Emballator top‑ranked in Hempel’s sustainability screening

When Hempel—one of the leading companies in coating solutions with brands such as Hempel and Crown—carried out a sustainability‑focused procurement screening, Emballator received a top ranking. For Maria Edqvist Schultz, Head of Sustainability at Emballator, the result reflects how the paint industry is working together to drive real change.

Sustainability at Emballator is rooted in the Group’s shared ambition to develop packaging solutions for future generations. Whether the packaging is made from plastic, tinplate or aluminium, the aim is always the same: to optimise material use and ensure that products can be recycled at the end of their life. This approach runs through every company and every part of the Emballator organisation.

“This ranking from one of our important partners shows how central our sustainability focus is—from employee health and safety, to environmental and climate work, to new product innovations,” says Maria Edqvist Schultz.

A thorough assessment across the supply chain

Hempel launched its Procurement Sustainability Screening initiative in 2021 to strengthen sustainability performance within its supply chains. In 2022, the screening turned to the steel packaging segment, where Emballator was assessed alongside other strategic suppliers.

The evaluation covered several areas: sustainability strategy, climate and emissions, energy and waste management, transport and sustainable procurement. Emballator and Hempel have been close partners for more than 30 years.

“This screening covered our operations in Sweden, Finland and the UK, and it’s great to receive this ranking. It also shows how the paint industry works together to make a difference for the environment,” says Maria.

Emballator was ranked number 4 out of 35 suppliers in the Steel Packaging category.

Dagny Nome, Procurement Sustainability Manager at Hempel, explains:

“By taking the time to understand where our suppliers stand on sustainability—and by providing clear feedback—we aim to build transparency and reward strong sustainability performance across our supply chain.”
