Sustainability
Explore Emballator’s path to halving emissions by 2030 and achieving climate neutrality by 2045.
Sustainable packaging for future generations
Packaging solutions for future generations are resource-efficient, safe and fully recyclable at the end of their life cycle.
At Emballator, we drive packaging innovation and improve material efficiency, guided by our commitment to sustainable business practice and a reduced climate footprint.
Here’s how we make it happen.
Maria Edqvist-Schultz, Head of Sustainability
We’re witnessing an industry shift that’s both challenging and genuinely exciting.
Roadmap 2030 – our climate strategy
By 2030, we will halve our climate footprint per revenue compared with 2021, and by 2045 we aim to be climate-neutral across the full value chain.
Roadmap 2030 guides how we improve material efficiency, cut emissions and support a steady shift towards more circular ways of doing business.
Our 5 climate priorities
85% of our climate footprint comes from the raw materials used to produce our packaging. We focus our efforts on five areas where we can make the greatest impact.
We continue to increase the share of recycled plastics and phase out material combinations that limit recyclability.
Targets for 2030:
- 30% recycled plastic in product portfolio
- 50% reduced climate footprint per revenue
- 100% recyclability
We work to reduce the climate impact of tinplate and aluminium while maintaining performance and safety.
Targets for 2030:
- 30% reduced climate footprint per revenue
- 100% recyclability
All operations are being optimised to reduce energy use. We aim for net-zero emissions in Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 2030, supported by energy efficiency measures and a shift to climate-neutral electricity where available.
Targets for 2030:
- Net-zero from the own business (Scope 1 and 2)
Transport is a significant emission source. By 2030, all transport that we control, internal and outbound, will be climate-neutral. We are already using bio-based fuels and electric vehicles on selected routes.
Target for 2030:
- Net-zero emissions from transports within our operational control
We invest in solutions that keep materials in circulation longer. Circular pilot initiatives, such as “Pail to Pail”, show how used packaging can return to production as high-quality recycled raw material.
Ambition for 2030:
- 5-15% of plastic materials from circular closed loop

We reduce our climate impact through energy efficient production, fossil free electricity, recycled materials and smarter logistics. Our teams actively work with waste reduction, design for recycling, and innovations that enable more resource efficient packaging. We track our progress through Our Climate Plan, regular data reporting and sustainability follow ups to ensure that we move toward our long term reduction targets.
We design packaging according to recognised design‑for‑recycling principles and verify compliance against the PPWR requirements that take effect on 12 August 2026. This includes ensuring recyclability (Article 6), substance restrictions and PFAS limits (Article 5), minimum recycled content in plastics (Article 7), and meeting packaging minimisation rules (Article 10). We also prepare for upcoming EU‑wide labelling and documentation requirements. As new guidance is published, we continuously update our packaging and support customers in understanding how the regulation applies to their specific packaging types.
Social sustainability is a core part of how we operate. We focus on safe and healthy workplaces, responsible leadership, and long‑term competence development across all Emballator sites. Our values guide our everyday decisions, and this is embodied in The Green Bag – the practical expression of our code of conduct. It sets the expectations for ethical behaviour, inclusion, and respect, and supports us in making responsible choices in our daily work. We also work closely with local communities to contribute positively in the regions where we operate.
We work closely with customers to evaluate material choices, recyclability, and compliance with upcoming regulations. Together with suppliers, we secure responsible raw materials and increase the amount of recycled materials. We also participate in industry networks and standards groups to help shape future guidelines and share knowledge that strengthens sustainable development across the value chain.
Before 12 August 2026, manufacturers (usually the brand owner) must ensure that each packaging type placed on the EU market is proven compliant with Articles 5–12 of PPWR. This includes preparing technical documentation in accordance with Article 15 and Annex VII, making sure packaging meets substance restrictions concerning heavy metals and PFAS. A Declaration of Conformity must also be prepared for each packaging type. Non compliant packaging cannot be placed on the EU market after this date. For more information, visit our PPWR-guide.
Article 15 requires manufacturers to place only compliant packaging on the market and to prepare all documentation before doing so. As a supplier, Emballator supports you by delivering the required information for Articles 5–11 - including material specifications, drawings and declarations. We follow a standardised documentation process and provide information in English to ensure clarity. This helps you complete your own technical documentation and Declaration of Conformity in line with PPWR requirements. Read more about the requirements in our PPWR-guide.
