Our climate strategy
Emballator’s Roadmap 2030 sets a clear direction for reducing carbon footprint across the entire value chain. This is our strategy.
Reaching climate neutrality by 2045
We are working to halve our carbon footprint per revenue by 2030 (compared to 2021) and reach climate neutrality by 2045.
Our strategy focuses on five areas where we can make the greatest difference: reducing emissions from plastics (1) and metals (2), improving energy efficiency (3), reducing transport emissions (4), and expanding circular material flows (5).
Roadmap 2030 outlines our way forward, helping us focus on the practical steps that reduce our carbon footprint and make our packaging more resource-efficient over time.
Reducing emissions from plastic materials
Plastics represent a significant share of our climate footprint, so increasing recycled content and improving recyclability are essential. We work to replace virgin materials where possible, remove components that hinder sorting, and optimise design for circularity. By 2030, at least 30% of our plastic portfolio will come from recycled materials.
Targets for 2030:
- 30% recycled plastic in product portfolio
- 50% reduced climate footprint per revenue
- 100% recyclability
Reducing emissions from metal materials
Metal packaging is already highly recyclable, but its production carries a climate cost. We focus on increasing recycled aluminium, improving design efficiency and reducing material use without compromising performance. We will achieve full recyclability across all metal packaging while lowering emissions per revenue by 2030.
Targets for 2030:
- 100% recyclability
- 30% reduced climate footprint per revenue
Improving energy efficiency and using climate-neutral energy
Energy use in production directly affects our climate footprint. We are modernising equipment, reducing energy-intensive processes, and sourcing fossil-free electricity where available. Our ambition is net-zero emissions in Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 2030, supported by continuous efficiency improvements across all Emballator sites.
Targets for 2030:
- Net-zero from the own business (Scope 1 and 2)
Net-zero emissions from transports within our operational control
Transport emissions are addressed through smarter logistics, reduced transport frequency, and a shift to lower-carbon fuels. We increasingly use electrified transport and bio-based alternatives such as HVO100. By 2030, all transport activities we control — internal and outbound — will be climate-neutral.
Target for 2030:
- Net-zero emissions from transports within our operational control
Establishing circular loop solutions
Circularity reduces dependence on virgin materials and strengthens supply resilience. We develop systems that return used packaging into new production, such as the Pail to Pail model. By 2030, 5–15% of our plastic materials should come from loop flows, helping keep valuable resources in circulation for longer.
Ambition for 2030:
- 5-15% of plastic materials from circular loop

We reduce our climate impact through energy efficient production, fossil free electricity, recycled materials and smarter logistics. Our teams actively work with waste reduction, design for recycling, and innovations that enable more resource efficient packaging. We track our progress through a structured climate plan, regular data reporting and sustainability follow ups to ensure that we move toward our long term reduction targets.
Our climate strategy focuses on reducing emissions in areas where we can make the largest difference: material efficiency, energy use, transport flows and improving circularity. These priorities guide how we design and operate our production, how we choose materials, and how we develop new solutions together with partners and suppliers. By having a clear direction, we can take consistent steps throughout the organisation that support long term climate goals.
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Suspendisse malesuada We monitor emissions regularly and follow a structured process for collecting and analysing environmental data from all sites. This allows us to track our development over time and ensure transparency across the Group. The results feed into our sustainability reporting and support decisions on where further improvements are needed. Clear follow up routines ensure that our targets remain actionable and measurable.
Reducing emissions is a shared responsibility, and we work closely with partners across the value chain to contribute to meaningful change. Together with our suppliers, we focus on responsible material choices and incorporating recycled content wherever possible.
With customers, we explore climate‑efficient packaging solutions - such as lighter designs and improved recyclability - that support their sustainability ambitions. We also take an active role in industry networks and joint initiatives, helping accelerate progress beyond our own operations.
Our climate ambitions play a central role in product development. We design packaging with a strong focus on material efficiency, recyclability, and reduced environmental impact, while meeting functional and regulatory requirements.
Climate considerations guide decisions throughout the development process – from material selection to design features and long term innovation initiatives. This ensures that sustainability is built into our solutions from the start.
