IML for 25-liter canisters

At Emballator, packaging is never just a surface. It carries your message, protects your product and supports safe use. In-mould labelling (IML) is a reliable way to combine durable decoration with strong material performance.

The benefits of IML

IML is a process where a printed plastic label is placed inside the blow moulding tool and becomes part of the canister during production. The result is a clean, durable surface that stays in place throughout the product’s life.

Your design can be created in many ways, with options for textures, colours and visual effects. The label is made from plastic, just like the canister, which creates a unified solution without adhesives.

Designed for recyclability under PPWR

From 1 January 2030, all packaging placed on the EU market must be recyclable under the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Using IML is an effective way to meet these requirements.

Recycling works best when the packaging includes as few materials as possible. Traditional labels for products such as gasoline or naphtha often use adhesives that do not dissolve in cold water, which can limit recyclability. IML removes this challenge altogether, as the label contains no adhesive. To support efficient recycling, we recommend not covering more than 70% of the canister surface.

Supporting safety and compliance

Products containing gasoline or naphtha must carry a permanent warning label. Under the Product Liability Act, you are responsible for ensuring that users are properly informed of any risks. If a label falls off and a user is harmed as a result, you may be held liable.

IML therefore provides an important safety advantage: because the label becomes part of the canister, it remains secure and readable.

A smooth and collaborative process

We always check that your artwork meets our specifications and supports both function and recyclability. To make the process easier, our Prepress Guideline offers clear technical information.

Files should be delivered in open formats such as EPS, AI or PDF. This allows us to make small adjustments when needed, ensuring optimal printing and a reliable result. Our experts are here to guide you through the possibilities and help you find a solution that combines creative expression with technical reliability.
