Introducing the EmSafe Plastic Handle
The upcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) places a strong emphasis on recyclability. By 1 January 2030, all packaging placed on the EU market must be recyclable, with the first requirements taking effect in August 2026. Now is the time to prepare.
A fully recyclable choice for EmSafe pails
We are introducing the EmSafe Plastic Handle, made entirely from polypropylene (PP). This material choice supports full recyclability and keeps the entire pail – handle, body and in‑mould label (IML) – within the same material stream.
The handle also offers a chance to strengthen your brand identity. With colour options in a wide range of shades, your pails can stand out while staying fully recyclable.
Tested for strength, safety and everyday use
Moving from steel to plastic required careful development to ensure reliability. Starting with the 3‑ and 6‑litre EmSafe pails, available since autumn 2025, we have now extended the plastic handle across the full round EmSafe series.
To support this work, Emballator Lagan built a dedicated test rig to compare plastic and steel handles under identical conditions. These tests confirm that the plastic handle performs just as reliably as the steel version — even in demanding environments.
What’s next
Our next step is to bring the EmSafe Plastic Handle to our oval and rectangular pails as well. This continues our long‑term focus on practical innovation, material efficiency and sustainable packaging development.
