Bio‑based sugar‑cane packaging from Emballator Mellerud
Blow‑moulded packaging in bio‑based and recycled materials is a key focus for Emballator Mellerud—and demand from sustainability‑conscious customers continues to rise.
Renewable materials are becoming increasingly important, and right now Emballator Mellerud is seeing strong interest in packaging made from bio‑based plastics. This is a material the company has offered for many years, produced from sugar cane.
Markus Porath, Product Manager at Emballator Mellerud, explains:
“We want to offer different material options depending on how the packaging will be used, and we’re placing a lot of emphasis on expanding our bio‑based and recycled offer. When you work with blow‑moulding as we do, it’s essential to provide materials that work best for our customers’ products.”
The bio‑based material is fully recyclable, and Emballator Mellerud runs its production on renewable electricity. This means the packaging also carries a strong environmental profile from a production perspective.
“As customers place more weight on sustainability, we have increased our production of bio‑based packaging,” says Markus.
Bio‑based materials are well suited for several segments. They are food‑approved and available in both rigid HDPE and a softer grade ideal for squeeze bottles, such as dressing or sauce packaging. The cosmetics and personal care segment is also growing quickly. In some cases, the material can even be used for certain types of hazardous goods.
