Electrifying transport: Emballator’s next step towards lower‑carbon logistics

At Emballator, we continue to strengthen our commitment to sustainability. As part of this work, we have entered a new partnership with DFDS, electrifying part of the transport route between Emballator Metal Group in Ulricehamn and Emballator UK in Bradford. This is an important step towards our goal of achieving net‑zero transport emissions by 2030.

DFDS shares our long‑term ambitions. The company aims to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030 and reach climate neutrality by 2050. Their investment in electric trucks with extended load capacity and a range of around 27–28 miles positions them as a strong partner for more sustainable logistics.

“We are convinced that this partnership will underscore our commitment to sustainable transportation and contribute to a more sustainable future for both us and our customers. By electrifying parts of the route between Ulricehamn and Bradford, we take a significant step towards achieving our sustainability goals for 2030,”

– Torbjörn Persson, Procurement Manager, Emballator Packaging Innovations

DFDS currently operates more than sixty electric trucks in Sweden, with continued expansion planned. They are also investing in charging infrastructure along key freight routes, creating reliable conditions for the transition to electric transport. This includes exploring collaborations with other stakeholders to ensure that charging solutions are available where they are needed.

“With DFDS’ help, we can now electrify the route from Emballator Metal Group in Ulricehamn to the port in Gothenburg, where the cargo is loaded for ferry transport to the UK. This reduces the carbon footprint for the Swedish leg of the journey to close to zero,”

– Maria Edqvist Schultz, Head of Sustainability, Emballator Group

When the cargo arrives in the UK, transport continues to our Bradford factory using trucks powered by renewable fuels. This reduces emissions on the final part of the route by around 85% compared with conventional diesel.

Electric trucks generate significantly fewer greenhouse gases during operation, and their use is becoming an increasingly important part of reducing emissions from heavy transport. For Emballator, this partnership marks a meaningful step towards a lower‑carbon supply chain that supports both our own goals and those of our customers.
