Emballator Innovation Center awarded for sustainability work

The Swedish Plastic Industry (SPIF) has named the Emballator Innovation Center the Environmental and Sustainability Project of the Year. The recognition highlights the team’s work with testing and developing recycled materials.

SPIF presents awards in several categories, including raw material supplier of the year, machine supplier of the year and sustainability project of the year. Emballator was nominated in the sustainability category and announced as the winner during the award ceremony in Malmö. The SPIF board selected the winner.

Mats Jeppsson, Innovation Manager at Emballator Innovation Center, received the award:

“It’s an honour that our work with sustainable materials is recognised, and it was extra inspiring to be in Malmö to accept this award on behalf of the team. At the Innovation Center we run trials on different recycled plastics and other sustainable materials. Innovation is one of our core values, and we look forward to continuing our work exploring recycled materials and their recyclability.”

A long‑term investment in sustainable development

Planning for the Innovation Center began several years ago, and the facility opened in June 2022.

The centre offers more than 700 square metres of development space, including process equipment for injection moulding, blow moulding and extrusion, along with measuring equipment for thermal and mechanical tests. It is located in Ljungby, Sweden.

Ulf Nicklasson, CEO of Emballator Packaging Innovations, reflects on the recognition:

“This award is proof that our investment in recycled materials is the right path forward. Building the Innovation Center has been fantastic, with strong support from the entire Emballator Group and our owners Herenco. It’s a significant investment, and the work carried out here is an important part of our climate strategy going forward.”
