From Closure to Handle – Small Details with a Big Impact

It’s easy to focus on the big changes when working to reduce environmental impact. But at Emballator, we also pay close attention to the small details. Across our companies, we collaborate to find practical ways to lower emissions and use materials more efficiently.

One recent example is the small plastic handle attached to the metal wire on our tin canisters. This component is now made from 100% post‑consumer recycled (PCR) plastic. The cylinder is manufactured and assembled through a close collaboration between Emballator Växjö and Emballator Ulricehamn.

Växjö, which mainly supplies the more regulated food industry, has been looking for additional ways to use PCR materials. By working together across the group, they found the perfect application in this handle—showing how shared knowledge can lead to smart, sustainable improvements.

Using recycled materials where they matter

The PCR plastic comes from Sweden’s deposit system and consists of recycled PET bottle caps. By switching from virgin plastic to this recycled material, we have reduced emissions by 90% for this component. That corresponds to 115 tonnes of CO₂e per year.

It’s a reminder that even small parts of a product can make a meaningful difference.

Don’t forget the small details—together, they add up.
