Putting safety first at Emballator Ulricehamn

At Emballator in Ulricehamn, a safe working environment is seen as a core part of sustainability. With the Arena Project, the team has taken another important step in strengthening workplace safety.

David Rudensten, production developer and Certified Machinery Safety Expert (CMSE®), has led the project with a focus on practical risk management.

“To further reduce the risk of accidents in our production, we’ve worked intensively on two fronts. One is personal safety, covering visibility and safe handling. The other is machine safety, making sure our equipment meets the right standards,” David explains.

New routines for risk assessment

All workwear has now been replaced with high‑visibility clothing, and stricter requirements for cut‑protection gloves apply across production.

“It’s not that we didn’t meet regulations before, but now we’ve reached an even higher level.”

Comprehensive risk assessments have been carried out on all production machines, resulting in detailed action plans. Older equipment has been upgraded with new safety features to meet the Machinery Directive, and safety instructions for operators have been updated.

Increased safety and shared commitment

The changes have strengthened both systems and culture.

“We feel confident that we now have a solid system that works. Risk observations are handled immediately. We’ve become much better in this area. Safety awareness has grown, and everyone supports each other. Incidents are the first item on the agenda every morning,” says David.

The mindset is simple: safety first, and everyone plays a part in ensuring no one gets hurt.

“A safe and secure workplace is the foundation for offering an attractive place to work and for bringing in the right skills.”
